Description
Exquisite pair of tub chairs now available at Harry & the Beagle, price not negotiable:
A pair of mid 20th century tub chairs in the Regency chinoiserie manner, the elm frames carved in imitation of bamboo, the upholstered seats and backs supported on legs in the same manner headed with pieces bracket supports.
Although made in the mid-20th century, these seats closely follow the tub chair form, favoured by English designers in the late 1790s and early 1800s. Faux bamboo shoot carving was particularly fashionable in Regency England and this pair of armchairs harks back to the era of Brighton Pavilion and the sumptuous Court of George IV.
An identical pair recently sold on 1st Dibs for £2400. These are priced lower due to slight discolouration of the cream upholstery on the inside backs as shown in the last photo. This is more apparent though a camera lens than to the naked eye but needs to be pointed out. They are in fantastic used condition and must be viewed to appreciate their true beauty and workmanship.
